Please join me at a virtual book launch party to celebrate the publication of Letters From the Inside: Hope in the Journey Beyond Classroom and Cell.
Thursday, August 20 | 4:30 pm PDT | Online (RSVP for detailed instructions)
In conversation with author Mitali Perkins, I will discuss the backstory of how the book came to be, read a few excerpts, and answer questions from guests. Unfortunately, Jorge is still incarcerated and cannot join us, but we will discuss how to help him and his family as well.
Since we’ll be online, I can’t provide cake and champagne as I’d like to, but I hope you’ll bring your own beverage of choice to toast the new book.
When I wrote about my time teaching third grade in Literally Unbelievable: Stories from an East Oakland Classroom, I had no idea that my next book would be written by a very special co-author: one of my former students now in prison, a very real victim of the school-to-prison pipeline.
We have been working on this for the last few years, and are very excited that Letters From the Inside: Hope in the Journey Beyond Classroom and Cell, will be published on August 20, 2020. We hope the book provides a look behind the scenes: what happened in Jorge’s life to lead to prison, his daily life “inside,” and his hopes and dreams for the future.
