Silver Spring, Md. (Tuesday, June 2, 2020) – TGR Foundation, A Tiger Woods Charity, and Discovery Education introduce the first module in a new series of no-cost digital professional learning resources empowering educators with new strategies to support student’s success in school and beyond. The professional development series for educators from TGR EDU: EXPLORE presents schools, particularly those from under-resourced communities, the access and materials needed to transform teaching during COVID-19 and beyond.
These new resources build upon the suite of no-cost virtual learning resources offered by TGR EDU: EXPLORE, a joint initiative from TGR Foundation and Discovery Education. The initiative delivers award-winning curriculum, family resources, and professional development to educators, students, and families nationwide.
The first in the planned series of six professional learning modules supports teacher agency by focusing on student-centered approaches to foster innovative, relevant, and engaging STEM instruction. The first module in the series redefines STEM by innovating interdisciplinary learning, focusing on design principles and real-world connections, and rethinking skill building. Future modules will focus on helping educators develop student-centered approaches, creating meaningful engagement strategies, promoting three-dimensional learning, and the supporting the creativity of teaching. “The demands upon teachers are changing drastically, especially now in the age of COVID-19,” said Dr. Katherine Bihr, Vice President of Programs and Education at TGR Foundation. “Long before we saw teachers transition to full-time distance learning, we knew it was critical for us share our expertise, provide tools, and offer simple ways for educators to continue engaging their students. Our new professional development series empowers educators with skills and ease of access needed to stay ahead of the curve while focusing on creative student-centered approaches to digital and in-person instruction.”
“TGR Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting teachers in their important work to foster student achievement. We share their vision of transformation and are proud to be their partner in scaling impact nationwide,” said Lori McFarling, President of Corporate & Community Partnerships at Discovery Education. “As we’ve seen during this time of school closures, empowering educators with dynamic, professional development that is accessible anytime, anywhere and on any device, has never been more important.”
