To provide educators with more opportunities for recognition, the American Consortium for Equity in Education has extended the nomination period until spring
The Excellence in Equity Awards has announced the re-opening of nominations in educator categories for the 2023-24 awards program, providing individual educators, their colleagues, and schools with more opportunities to be recognized by this American Consortium for Equity in Education program.
The new timeline for this program will be:
-
- Nomination deadline: February 23, 2024
- Finalists announced: April 2, 2024
- Winners announced: April 16, 2024
This updated nomination and announcement period applies to the 15 “Champion of Equity” award categories designed to honor current administrators, educators, staff, and paraprofessionals of all roles. The announcement period for the industry award categories—honoring companies, nonprofits, products, and industry leaders—remains unchanged. Finalists and winners in those categories will be announced in November.
“We’re thrilled to extend the nomination period for educators to enter the Excellence in Equity Awards program,” said Ross Romano, strategic advisor and awards program chair for the American Consortium for Equity in Education. “This provides more deserving educators, staff, and paraprofessionals with opportunities for recognition. Further, it gives not only our educator winners, but also our soon-to-be-announced industry winners, a dedicated time of year to be fully highlighted and celebrated through our media channels.
In 2022, the inaugural year of the Excellence in Equity Awards, 42 educators earned finalist status and 21 educators from 15 states plus the District of Columbia were named as winners. With the addition of new award categories this year, the program aims to increase the number of winners.
Award winners will receive a variety of benefits, including:
-
- Their choice of professional development e-book from Times 10 Publications, the official publishing partner of the Excellence in Equity Awards
- Access to Virtue Analytics’ Top 5 Colleges Multiple Scholarship Estimator tool to help students make informed decisions about higher education options
- An invitation to be a guest on Education Talk Radio, the Consortium’s flagship podcast
- A spotlight feature in the June 2024 special issue of the Access & Equity PreK-12 Journal dedicated to award winners, as well as an invitation to write for the journal and Consortium website
Times 10 Publications will also select one award-winning educator as the recipient of a book publishing contract including an advance on future royalties. The 2022 winner of this recognition was Symone James, a teacher at Roger Sherman Elementary School in Connecticut’s Meriden Public Schools, whose book will be published in early 2024.
