Massachusetts Mayflower Academy Now Accepting Applications for 2023-2024 School Year

Full-time online private high school opens registration for fall 2023 with new additions to its more than 300 courses

Not every student thrives in a traditional school setting. Some students need more flexibility on their path to success. Online learning is an increasingly popular option for secondary education. In addition to gaining a flexible path to a diploma, students have access to diverse and exciting learning opportunities that not only meet their academic needs but also provide opportunities to explore career interests. To help students realize their potential in a safe, supportive online learning environment, Massachusetts Mayflower Academy (MMA), a full-time online private high school, is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year at https://go.vhslearning.org/applynow.

MMA is an accredited online high school powered by VHS Learning, a nonprofit providing high-quality online courses since 1996. For the 2023-24 school year, MMA offers its students more than 300 online courses, ranging from core subjects and unique electives to 29 Advanced Placement® courses and a variety of Honors options.

This fall, MMA will also offer several new courses, including IT Fundamentals, Accounting, and Music Composition and Songwriting.

The IT Fundamentals course will prepare students to pass the CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+) Exam FC0-U61. Course participants will learn about IT infrastructure, software development, and database use. They will also explore the programming languages Python and Java. Students will learn to produce code that can convert hexadecimals or binary numbers to decimals, create a database to query information, and explore encryption techniques.

The Accounting course is designed to introduce students to various careers in the accounting profession and provide them with a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Through simulations, assignments, spreadsheets, and QuickBooks Online, students will analyze transactions and complete the accounting cycle, and create and analyze financial statements. In addition, students will learn about multistep procedures needed for calculating depreciation, payroll taxes, and financial ratios, and learn to read an annual report.

In accordance with the National Core Arts Standards for composition, students who take the Music Composition and Songwriting course will create, perform, and analyze diverse musical genres. Course participants will use Noteflight notation software to write music for a variety of instruments and collaborate with classmates as they listen to each other’s creations.

“Each student enrolled in Massachusetts Mayflower Academy follows a learning path unique to them and is assigned a learning coach that serves as their liaison to our program and helps ensure they stay on track,” said President & CEO of VHS Learning Carol DeFuria. “That supportive environment combined with our extensive variety of high-quality courses helps students stay engaged in their learning and gives them a firm foundation that prepares them to achieve their academic and career goals.”
