“The Siemens Foundation is committed to narrowing the opportunity gap for young people in STEM, particularly those in underserved or underrepresented communities,” said David Etzwiler, CEO, Siemens Foundation. “In partnership with Discovery Education, we are excited to continue our support of Title 1 schools as they increase accessibility to STEM education now and contribute to a more inclusive STEM workforce in the future.”
This is the fifth year of the Possibility Grant Sweepstakes. Previous winning schools include: Sugar Hill Elementary School of Hall County School District in Gainesville, GA; Fort White Elementary School of Columbia County School District in Fort White, FL; Lithonia High School of DeKalb County School District in Lithonia, GA; and Roseland Montessori School of the Tangipahou Parish School System in Roseland, Louisiana.
“The Grant not only allows us the chance to continue teaching STEM effectively whether we are in remote, in-person, or hybrid learning environments, but also to develop something we have been wanting at our school since we opened over ten years ago: a mobile science lab,” says Julie Bertucci, 1st Grade Teacher at Roseland Montessori, winner of the 2020 Possibility Grant Sweepstakes.
“Discovery Education is once again proud to partner with Siemens Foundation on this important initiative,” said Lori McFarling, President of Corporate & Community Partnerships at Discovery Education. “Together, we are helping schools create the engaging STEM learning experiences we know support the development of tomorrow’s leaders in the field of STEM.”
The Sweepstakes builds upon Siemens STEM Day—the Siemens Foundation and Discovery Education partnership program providing more than 175 no-cost, hands-on STEM activities aligned to national teaching standards to help innovate curriculum.
